Biography

Alonna intricately weaves inspiration from the ethereal tapestry of our spiritual connection with the natural world. Fantastical figures emerge within the subtle strokes and vibrant palettes, sharing revelations and narratives of rediscovery, unveiling the forgotten yet potent connection that binds us to nature.

Her chosen medium is primarily oil on canvas, complemented by the ashes of various plants and water from her environment. Each visible brushstroke, laden with energy, is meticulously applied in thick and thin layers onto an unpredictable and multi-layered surface. This technique results in a visceral trail of emotion that resonates when touched by light, highlighting not only the surface of the painting but also simultaneously revealing layers beneath.

Alonna has exhibited her work in various locations throughout Wisconsin and Mexico. Recently, in February-March, she displayed many of her paintings at Nalu Art Gallery in Merida, Yucatan. The preceding summer, she participated in the 2023 International Biennial Portrait Competition at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art. Prior to that, she also took part in the 61st Annual Juried Exhibition at the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, WI, spanning May through July 2023. Alonna's portfolio extends to various group shows and exhibitions, including "Ethos" at the Charles Allis Art Museum in Milwaukee, WI, in 2016.

Born in 1989 in Wausau, Wisconsin, Alonna's artistic journey commenced during childhood, experimenting with diverse mediums such as ash on rocks. Her formal education unfolded at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, culminating in her graduation in 2016. Immersed in Art and Design, Art History, and Critical Theory, she embarked on an enriching art history and architecture tour of Greece. Under the mentorship of artist and gallerist David Anthony Hummer in Wausau, she delved into painting techniques akin to those of her enduring inspiration, Alyssa Monks. Alonna's subsequent years living and traveling abroad, particularly in Asia and Mexico, continue to infuse her work with a global perspective and profound inspiration.
